The award is an incentive to develop literary and artistic activities that impact local cultural and social life. Primarily, the initiative aims to foster the creativity of young people in the most significant expressions of the human spirit. The award aims to foster the production of fiction, travel writing, nonfiction, poetry, and research, not only in the literary field but also in connection with the local context. The judging panel is composed of national and international university professors and Lawrence scholars.
The award ceremony will include a conference on various aspects of the writer, as well as meetings, debates, exhibitions, and performances focused on the local area. The event will feature documentary filmmakers, essayists, directors, critics, journalists, artists, tourism promoters, scholars, and national and international institutional figures.
The first edition was held in 2007.
